Why Bees Matter: Bees play a crucial role in maintaining our ecosystem. In fact, about 75% of the fruits, nuts, and vegetables produced in the United States depend on these tiny pollinators. They’re also responsible for pollinating approximately 80% of the world’s flowers, making them indispensable not only for agriculture but also for the economy.
The Challenge: Unfortunately, bees are facing significant threats. Their primary food sources, nectar and pollen from flowers, are disappearing due to habitat destruction, which is exacerbated by natural disasters like hurricanes and droughts. For example, the Florida panhandle has been severely impacted, leading to a drastic decline in local bee populations.
How You Can Help: By planting flowers, you can make a real difference. Supporting local initiatives allows us to distribute hundreds of pounds of native, non-GMO seeds—both annual and perennial—to areas in need. Your contribution will not only help restore the bee population but also provide sustenance for butterflies and birds.
Recent Planting Successes: In Oregon’s Willamette Valley, we collaborated with The Bee Girl Organization to plant wildflowers at a vineyard. This initiative has already shown positive results, with an increase in bee populations and the revival of dormant wildflowers.
