Human activities have significantly impacted sea turtle populations, putting these magnificent creatures at risk. With only seven species of sea turtles, all classified as endangered species, their survival is in our hands. As vital keystone species, sea turtles maintain the balance of marine ecosystems by controlling jellyfish populations, promoting healthy seagrass beds, and enriching coastal vegetation through their nesting activities.
From April to September, female sea turtles come ashore to lay their eggs, but the odds are against their hatchlings, with only 1 in 1,000 surviving due to various threats such as predation, beach overcrowding, coastal development, and disorienting light pollution. That’s why our partner, Greater Good Charities, collaborates with local organizations to safeguard nests. They provide monitoring cameras to observe sea turtle behavior, create shelters to combat light pollution, and educate beachgoers about protecting these creatures.
By intervening right when a sea turtle lays her eggs, we can increase the chances of hatchling survival. Sea turtles need our help now more than ever. Will you donate to turtle conservation efforts and ensure the next generation of sea turtles can thrive?
