Join us in wildlife conservation efforts that protect critical ecosystems vital for endangered species. The Payunia Provincial Reserve in Mendoza, Argentina, is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including the endangered Andean cat and puma, as well as the largest migratory guanaco herd in the world. Spanning nearly 1.6 million acres—almost the size of Delaware—this expansive reserve is at risk due to livestock competition for food and water, leading to overgrazing.
In collaboration with WCS Argentina and GreaterGood.com, we are working to expand this reserve and reduce livestock presence by purchasing ranch land and compensating retiring livestock producers for grazing rights. To date, we have safeguarded over 150,000 acres, which serves as summer habitat for guanacos and other threatened wildlife.
“When I first visited this area almost 10 years ago, I was awestruck by the sight of hundreds of wild animals, including guanacos, foxes, and condors, coexisting in a breathtaking landscape,” said Tim Kunin, CEO of GreaterGood. “It felt like a South American Serengeti, and I knew we had to protect this majestic region.”
We are committed to expanding the reserve to safeguard the winter habitats of migratory guanacos. Recent efforts have led to the successful acquisition of 50,000 acres in the northern section of the parcel, where cattle competition has been eliminated. This revitalization will encourage more wildlife to thrive in this crucial habitat.
