Every bat counts! Together, we can save bats from extinction. With over 1,300 species, these remarkable creatures play a vital role in our ecosystem, controlling pest populations and pollinating plants. However, more than 200 species face the threat of extinction, primarily due to human actions.
Bats are often misunderstood; contrary to popular belief, they are not blind. They utilize echolocation, a sophisticated method of navigating and hunting by emitting sounds that bounce back from objects. This ability allows them to determine distances, sizes, and even textures.
Sadly, myths rooted in popular culture, such as the idea of bats as bloodsuckers, contribute to their decline. Habitat destruction from development, tourism, and mining exacerbates the issue. In North America alone, over 5.7 million bats have succumbed to White-nose Syndrome since 2006.
Our dedicated team at Greater Good Charities is actively working to protect and increase bat populations through field operations in various countries, including an upcoming mission to Argentina. You can make a difference! Donate to bat conservation efforts or buy bat conservation merchandise to support these critical initiatives.
